The Zero Waste Institute participated in the Zero Waste Forum 2026, held on 5–7 June 2026. The forum featured sessions on zero waste, circular economy, and preparations for COP31.

ITU Zero Waste Institute Participated in the Zero Waste Forum 2026

Academics from Istanbul Technical University participated in the Zero Waste Forum 2026, organized by the Zero Waste Foundation and held at Atatürk Airport between 5–7 June 2026.

As part of the preparations for COP31, the forum featured various sessions focusing on zero waste, circular economy, sustainable development, and climate action. The forum was inaugurated by Emine Erdoğan, Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation. The event also brought together numerous representatives from public institutions, the private sector, academia, civil society organizations, and international stakeholders.

The sessions addressed topics such as scaling up zero waste practices, financing mechanisms, and opportunities for collaboration. The forum provided an important platform for knowledge exchange and cooperation among stakeholders in the lead-up to COP31.

ITU Zero Waste Institute aims to integrate the zero waste approach into education, research, and governance processes at Istanbul Technical University through a holistic perspective. The Institute conducts scientific research in line with resource efficiency, circular economy, and sustainable production and consumption models, supports interdisciplinary collaborations, and contributes to the development of innovative practices.

Operating in alignment with ITU’s strong academic infrastructure and research capacity, the Institute seeks to develop exemplary practices at the campus scale, establish collaborations with national and international stakeholders, and contribute to the wider dissemination of the zero waste approach at the societal level. In this context, the ITU Zero Waste Institute carries out its activities at the institute level to contribute to knowledge production, educational activities, and policy development for a sustainable future.
